Race Commentary

With the exception of Cjent’s and Farmnurd’s cars (in the mail on Saturday) we let Ultimate Racer determine the racing order alphabetically by the cars ID.

Alpha Rameo:

This is very nice looking car and very solidly built. It’s main downfall was the flag guide turns really stiff and combined with a narrow chassis she likes to roll over. As requested I did not try to tune in the guide.

Chevy Bel Air ’68 Nova:

If I were to go into business selling hand crafted models, this builder would be first on my hiring list. What gorgeous cars! This car and her brother the ’68 Nova were built with pin guides and originally setup for magnet racing. Both extremely smooth runners, they liked to kick on very easily in the corners.

Chevy Pickup:

An engineering marvel, this guy held the track fairly well. One of the heaviest entries weight is her friend, with all that motor something had to hold her down.

Chevy Comaro:

One of the smoothest applications of a GM 9330 I have seen or heard. This guy promised to be a major contender from the git go. However the oversized flag guide and it’s limited travel made the car tip to easily in the tight corners.

Corvette (Barfly):

What can I say, just the best darn car on the track! Seriously tho this is the chassis that went to Farmy’s demo derby and I was happy to see here get to make more than a couple of laps J

Corvette (Bopalou):

Ever have your ears plug suddenly? Seems like you just went deaf? That’s the sensation you get when driving this car around the track. You cant hear it! And Fast! Oh my!!!

However this car too was plagued by a limited rotation of the flag guide. More than just a minor tweak, the front of the body limits the guides motion causing the car to pop out of the slot.

F1 Racer:

I was surprised by this guy. He ran fairly well and reminded me of a tuned Artin.

A little oversized , I did my best with him.

Jaguar:

Another fine and solidly built chassis. Much faster and easier to handle then her sister the Alpha, she had some potential. Again a little narrow for non mag I think.

Lambo (Martin0409):

Why I can’t say for sure, it must be the way it set low and is so heavy, but BULLDOG comes to mind with this car! Holds the track great, heck you need a crane to lift it J but

This guy performed very well. Another duel motor engineering marvel from Canada.

Lambo (EasyEd):

I bought a little food scale for weighing the cars, not much just something to get an idea. I really wish had spent more so I could see which was heavier, this car or a feather! SMOOTH, FAST and way to light. A couple of pieces of lead would have placed her near the top.

Lancia Aurelia:

One of the most interesting cars in the field. Short narrow chassis, weighted down with some lead. Not the fastest car by far, but handles very well. Slides a little in the corners, never tips and just a sheer pleasure to drive.

Lola:

At the top of the heap in my opinion. If I were entering a Styrene chassis this is how I would like to set tit up. The right wheels and tires, wide stance, freely moving flag guide.

She is a fast well handling car! And all jokes aside, the paint job and detail are top notch!

MCA:

Just as gorgeous in person as the pictures we’ve seen! Fast , smooth and just a little bit light. If you have ever had the opportunity to run one of these Austrian built cars, you know what I mean when I say, its everything you would expect!

Mini Cooper (Peter)

Fast, holds the track surprisingly well a pleasure to drive. But it’s the lights that set this guy apart from the crowd. How cool are the lights! One by one all the members of my family had to see the lights. And they stay on while your caring the car around the house to show everyone LOL Too Cool!

Mini Cooper (Masmojo)

Hey, another mini screaming around the track. Fine job on this little dude!! Holds the track great and real fun drive. Some of the best brass workmanship we’ve seen I am sure.

I really like this car!!

Mustang:

The only wood chassis in the field. It’s really cool! Built from a ruler this is the kind of thing when we say scratch, you better listen! Great Job!

Nascar Sisters #2 & 21

I talked a lot about learning from each other with this proxy. Here is something I learned so far. Light and well balanced with the right wheels and tires means a smooth and fast ride. These two cars are a perfect example. Fish tail to beat the band however, I think both of them could have benefited from a little weight near the center of the car.

Nascar $24:

And here we have my prize the Black Widow isn’t she lovely and so deadly, her venom is 15 times more poisonous than that of a Rattle snake.

Ah, what? Oh, wake up!

Everything her sisters are with a little more weight, Aluminum chassis and secrete weapon I’m not telling about. Call it stirring the pot, call it what you like, but I know and you don’t ha ha ha.

Porsche:

I learned to spell Porsche too!

Another fine job of workmanship.  This car is a marvel to look at and fun to drive. A little long for the corners she likes to drift a little to much.

Saleen:

Probably the single biggest catalyst for me wanting to build my own brass chassis.

This guy has been haunting me since I first saw pictures a couple of years ago.

Now can you say FAST! No really can you say CRAZY FAST!!! Dual GM 9330’s , four wheels drive this thing will smoke the track.  Unfortunately a lot of it is in the top end, and the weight of the car is not friendly in the corners.

Tuner:

By far not the fastest car on the track, but consistent. Handles very well through all the corners with the help of some very well designed wheels and tires.

’32 Ford Roaster:

We named this car a ’32 Ford as this is what the Butcher figured it to be.

The only car in the line up sporting an Artin motor. This car did very well placing just about center of the standing. Handles good and a pleasure to drive.

Corvette (Cjent)

I must say it pained me very much to DOA this car from our friend and 1:43 Allie.

Near as we can figure the car suffered a temp problem form changing climates and the glue let loose on the styrene chassis. In somewhat terrible shape upon arrival attempts were made to breathe life back into this guy, but allas we failed.

Pre Race Repairs and Adjustments:

Despite my first inclination to do absolutely nothing with the cars before the race but take photos I decided to run each car for several laps to learn how to drive them and look for any thing obvious the would inhibit them from performing well.

Both the ’57 Chevy and ’68  Nova needed the pin guides shaved down as the stuck in the slot.

During pre race laps the Chevy Truck had a wire soldered back on the flag guide.

Head to Head Live Race Feed:

Well what's there to say other than anything worth doing takes time and hard work.

While it may not be for everyone, I will continue to try and work out the bugs and basically

get my stuff straight and try again and again until this works out. Maybe with a little less

promotion next time
